Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Ali, the 7th International Conference of the University of Jordan (UJ) Library on electronic publishing kicked off on Tuesday under the theme: "Library 4.0 in Action."
The conference aims to highlight the impact of digital technology, smart applications, and artificial intelligence on the role of libraries in the scientific research system, as well as the flexibility of libraries to respond to these developments, which have a significant impact on the educational and learning process.
During the ceremony, UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat said that the introduction of AI tools and their widespread availability to the public has brought close to the future we wish for.
Obeidat explained that the impact of programming and technology in the world of open networks is visible in a variety of fields and sectors, particularly publishing and a library, indicating the usefulness of artificial intelligence in scientific research and academic publication.
The President emphasized that the age of technology and artificial intelligence has not been and will not be without challenges and risks, and that privacy, security, and digital ethics require attention, scrutiny, and strategic thinking, as well as hard and enduring work to develop appropriate preventive measures.
He pointed out that digital culture is not only about knowing how to use hardware and software, but also about being able to think critically and creatively about how to utilize these tools and navigate technology and the digital world with all of its potential benefits and obstacles.
The two-day conference will discuss themes concerned with artificial intelligence in academic research and its legal and ethical issues, digital literacy and educational systems, academic publishing and research, sustainability and social responsibility, actions and implications.
