The University of Jordan (UJ) today signed a student exchange agreement with Shanghai International Studies University, a memorandum of understanding for academic cooperation with Peking University, and another with Dalian University of Technology.
The signing took place during the "Establishment of China-Arab Consortium of Universities Exchange Mechanism and the Arab-Chinese Higher Education Forum" conference at the Landmark Hotel, organized by the Association of Arab Universities and the Chinese Association of Higher Education.
The student exchange agreement, signed by UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, and President of Shanghai University, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Amro Ezzat Salameh, and the President of the Chinese Association of Higher Education, as well as the Chinese Ambassador to Amman, Chen Chuandong.
The agreement aims to provide more study and academic exchange opportunities for students. It also seeks to enhance understanding and collaboration between the two universities and is valid for five years, with terms that serve the interests of both parties.
Furthermore, the MoUs signed with Peking University and Dalian University of Technology, in addition to a general MoU with Shanghai International Studies University, aims to develop cooperative activities in areas of mutual academic interest. These activities include student and faculty exchange, joint lectures and research, collaborative research projects, participation in seminars and conferences, and the exchange of information and academic materials.
During a dialogue session with representatives of Arab and Chinese universities, Obeidat emphasized the depth of Jordanian-Chinese relations and how Chinese universities are well-aligned for this constructive cooperation with Arab universities aimed at exchanging culture, knowledge, science, and research, contributing positively to production and the economy.
Obeidat highlighted several areas of cooperation with Chinese universities, including joint postgraduate programs, professional education, infrastructure improvement for this type of education, language teaching in both Chinese and Arabic, smart agriculture, and smart vehicles technology.
This conference aimed to strengthen scientific and academic cooperation between Arab and Chinese universities. It was also intended to increase collaboration between the two sides in scholarship programs, academic exchange, scientific conferences, and cooperation in the fields of teaching the Chinese language, scientific research, engineering, technology, energy, and the environment.
