Senate Committee on Education Visits UJ Aqaba

​The Senate Committee on Education, headed by Prof. Mahasen Aljaghoub, and in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute, organized a visit to the University of Jordan's (UJ) branch in Aqaba, to discuss challenges related to technical and vocational education and the requirements of the labor market.

The committee met with the UJ Vice President - President of the Branch, Prof. Nazih Al-Batoush, and deans of the schools, to learn about the schools and specializations offered at the branch, and discuss challenges facing higher education.

Al-Jagoub spoke about the importance of technical and vocational education, especially in the southern regions of the Kingdom, stressing His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Highness the Crown Prince's focus on higher education and vocational education sector and quality of education.

Al-Batoush gave a presentation on the branch’s schools, future plans, and the importance of specializations offered in serving the society by supplying the labor market with graduates, while emphasizing the necessity of establishing interdisciplinary professional programs that focus on developing digital, communication, and language skills.

Committee member Dr. Ahmed Al-Abbadi spoke about the importance of the role of the consultation and training offices in universities, pointing out that the decision to establish the School of Law in the Aqaba branch is a sound decision, adding that it will attract students from inside and outside the Kingdom.

Committee member Talal Al-Madhi stressed the importance of the Community Service Center in providing students and members of the local community with more experiences, while raising the level of students' competencies to meet the needs of the labor market and keep pace with technological developments.
