UJ Business Students Come 3rd in CFA Research Challenge's Regional Round

A team of students from the School of Business, specifically the Department of Finance, participated in the 2024 CFA Institute Research Challenge at the regional level, after qualifying in the local level of the competition organized by the Jordanian CFA Society Jordan.

The team competed against research teams from multiple Jordanian universities in the second stage of the regional competition, which included ten universities representing the Middle East and North Africa region.

The regional stage featured 47 universities divided into 6 groups from different regions of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa (EMEA). UJ's team, consisting of students from the finance department, including Nibal Tuffaha, Jana Atardi, Farah Muatouqah, Nabihah Al-Khattabah, and Bayan Joudah, made significant progress by winning the first level of this stage with their research on evaluating the stock of the Arab Company for Pesticides and Veterinary Drugs (MBED).

They students were supervised by Prof. Mohammed Tayeh, Chairman of the Finance Department, and Sahib Al-Tal from the Arab Potash Company, representing the industry sector.

With this win, the team advanced to the semifinals of the regional stage, competing against 14 universities divided into three groups for the final stage of the regional level. The School of Business team received the highest evaluation from the judging panel, securing victory in their group, which included the University of Neuchatel from Switzerland, WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management from Germany, and the University of Zagreb, qualifying for the final stage of the regional competition.

In this regard, the Jordanian CFA Institute confirmed that the participation of UJ's team in this competition and reaching the final stage at this level is an achievement that has not been accomplished in 14 years since Jordanian universities began participating in this competition.

Additionally, alongside this global competition, the College of Business team participated in the Research Challenge competition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, organized by the Emirati CFA Institute, where they secured third place among winning teams from Arab universities at the local level, competing against ten universities.

Dean of the College of Business, Professor Raed Mas'adah Bani Yasin, emphasized that student participation in such extracurricular activities is one of the college's ongoing objectives, aligned with the university's policy of continuous student development, fostering purposeful learning, critical thinking, self-improvement, fostering a culture of research tracks within and outside the university, establishing local, Arab, and international partnerships to enrich student learning experiences and enhance their employment opportunities.

It is worth noting that the "CFA Research Challenge" is an annual global competition organized by the CFA Institute, aiming to enhance competitiveness and develop the necessary skills for students majoring in financial and banking sciences in the fields of financial analysis, investment, and professional ethics.
