The University of Jordan (UJ) welcomed Chairman of the International Hospitals Group (IHG) and President of the British Esports Federation Prof. Chester King for a visit aimed at reviewing UJ’s mental health programs and exploring opportunities for cooperation in clinical training and academic development.
King was accompanied by Hisham Abdel Rahman and Haitham AlShaya as part of the visiting delegation.
From UJ’s side, the meeting brought together UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, Jordan University Hospital (JUH) Director General Prof. Nader Al Bsoul, Vice President for Scientific Schools Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaky, Dean of the School of Medicine Prof. Ayman Wahba, and Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research Prof. Yaser Al Rayyan.
The discussions provided the visiting delegation with a comprehensive overview of UJ’s academic and clinical pathways in psychiatry and behavioral sciences, as well as the services delivered through JUH, including residency programs, outpatient mental health clinics, and the inpatient psychiatric unit.
UJ’s academic and medical team outlined development priorities focused on enhancing clinical training environments and expanding mental health services, while also highlighting academic tracks in psychiatry, clinical psychology, and mental health nursing.
King expressed strong interest in the training opportunities available at UJ, noting the global shortage of mental health professionals and the importance of building partnerships that respond to regional needs. He also highlighted IHG’s global experience in developing and operating hospitals and specialized care facilities across more than fifty-five countries.
At the end of the visit, the delegation toured JUH’s psychiatric unit, met with clinical staff, and reviewed therapeutic services as conversations about future cooperation continued.
