University of Jordan Welcomes Omani Delegation to Explore Deaf Students’ Inclusion

The University of Jordan (UJ) welcomed a delegation from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman, to the School of Arts and Design to explore the School’s pioneering experience in integrating deaf and hard-of-hearing students into its academic programs in art and design.

Dean of the School of Arts and Design Prof. Jihad Al-Ameri received the delegation, which included Supervisor of the Program for Admission of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students at the College of Education Dr. Fakhriya Al-Yahyai, Dr. Najlaa Al-Saadi, and Dr. Suhail Al-Zoubi. During the meeting, Prof. Al-Ameri emphasized the School’s commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that nurtures creativity and ensures equal learning opportunities for all students.

The visit featured an interactive session with a group of deaf and hard-of-hearing students who shared their inspiring academic and artistic experiences, alongside a presentation by faculty member Joyce Al-Ra’i highlighting the Art Therapy Diploma and its contribution to students’ emotional well-being and creative development.

The delegation toured the School’s studios and galleries, where they admired students’ artworks and the University’s accessibility services. They praised UJ’s inclusive education model as a leading example in the Arab region and expressed Sultan Qaboos University’s interest in fostering future collaboration based on this pioneering experience.
