The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, received a delegation from the University of Illinois System in the United States. The visit comes as part of the events of the University’s 2nd Honorary Professors’ Forum, which will be held this Saturday under the theme "Higher Education in an Era of Accelerated Transformations."
The delegation included the Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Illinois System and Executive Director of the Discovery Partners Institute, Professor Prof. Deba Dutta; Associate Vice President for International Engagement, Prof. Pradeep Khanna; and the Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois System and Honorary Professor at the University of Jordan’s School of Medicine, Prof. Nadera Sweiss.
During the meeting, Obeidat uttered delight in the strong academic relations between the two universities and emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in areas such as scientific research, academic and student exchange, and various training programs, particularly short-term ones that address the needs of the labor market and advances in technology, such as artificial intelligence.
For his part, Dutta expressed interest in strengthening partnerships with its faculties, especially in engineering, medical sciences, and artificial intelligence.
The meeting included discussions on enhancing cooperation through the development of joint academic programs, launching collaborative research initiatives, and organizing reciprocal visits, as part of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions last year.
The delegation also toured several university facilities, including the Cell Therapy Center, the Center for Documents, Manuscripts, and Bilad al-Sham Studies, and the Library Unit.
