UJ, Japanese Embassy Mark 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Jordan and Japan

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Japan, the Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II School of International Studies organized today in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Amman a number of events under the theme: "Japanese Language and Culture".

The event was held under the patronage of the Vice President for International Cooperation and Partnerships, Prof. Nahed Emaish, and the Japanese Ambassador to Oman, Okuyama Jiro.

In her welcoming speech, Emaish emphasized the university's commitment to enhancing understanding and cultural exchange. She highlighted the importance of the Japanese language and culture on the international stage, reflecting on the deep richness rooted in Japanese heritage, which represents a unique balance between tradition and innovation.

Ambassador Okuyama Jiro affirmed the deep rooted Jordanian-Japanese relations, stating that celebrating the seventieth anniversary of their shared diplomatic relations marks a significant milestone. He expressed his aspirations to continue building bridges of cultural and linguistic cooperation with the university, especially with the upcoming launch of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) for the first time in Jordan.

In his speech, Dean of the School Prof. Hassan Al-Momani, emphasized the close interaction between language and culture, where each complements the other without separation. He highlighted the strong relationship between Jordan and Japan that began in the 1950s and flourished on all levels, emanating from commonalities between the two countries and their positions in their respective regions, a bond reinforced by the leadership of both countries.

The event featured various exciting cultural and language activities, including an introduction by Japanese language education advisor Murakami Nami on the significance of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and its program. Attendees also enjoyed selected Japanese flavors and cuisines. Moreover, participants had the opportunity to experience the art of calligraphy through a practical training session.

It is worth noting that the Japanese Language Proficiency Test consists of five levels: N1 to N5, with a registration fee of 40 Jordanian Dinars. The deadline for registration is March 31, 2024, and the examination is scheduled for July 7, 2024.
