​In a collaborative effort between the Embassy of Japan in Jordan, the University of Jordan, the University of Tokyo, and the Jordan Japan Academic Society (JJAS), a Seminar titles: "Global Water Crisis and Adaptive Solutions for Jordan" unfolded both on the campus of the University of Jordan (UJ) and through an online platform.

Distinguished attendees included Ambassador of Japan to Jordan OKUYAMA Jiro; UJ President Professor Nathir Obeidat; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Dr. Menwer Attarakih; JJAS President Professor Mohammad Matouq. Serving as the seminar's moderator was Dr. Hazim El Naser, former Minister of Water and Irrigation.

Professor Obeidat delivered the opening remarks, extending a warm welcome to Professor OKI and emphasizing the significance of academic collaborations between Jordan and Japan to foster mutual understanding and knowledge sharing.

Ambassador OKUYAMA extended gratitude to UJ for its collaborative efforts in organizing a seminar addressing one of humanity's most pressing issues – the global water crisis. He highlighted Japan's eagerness to fortify cooperation with Jordan across various domains.

Professor OKI Taikan, a renowned hydrologist and Special Advisor to the President of the University of Tokyo, presented a keynote address sharing profound insights into water resources, climate change, and sustainability, specifically tailoring adaptive solutions for Jordan given its prominence in the global water crisis due to arid conditions and limited water resources. The seminar underscored the role of scientific research and data-driven policies in steering sustainable water management.

Active engagement characterized the seminar, with students, professors, government officials, and experts participating fervently. The inclusion of a Zoom webinar, accessible to a global audience, facilitated impactful exchanges of ideas and insights. This collaborative initiative marked a significant stride towards addressing the complex challenges of water scarcity, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in finding adaptive solutions for Jordan and beyond.
