The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obaidat, received in his office Professor of Global Health and Epidemiology at the University of California San Diego, Wael Al-Delaimy, and discussed with him prospects of joint cooperation between the two universities in the research and scientific fields.

The meeting conferred, in the presence of the Vice President for Global Rankings and International Accreditation, Prof. Faleh Sawair, Dean of Scientific Research, Prof. Amira Al-Masry, and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Ahmed Al-Salaymeh, UJ's role in the joint project "GC3WEFH", a global climate change project funded by the US National Institute of Health (NIH).

During the meeting, Obaidat stressed the university’s keenness to build collaborative relations with UC San Diego in various fields, particularly research and public health programmes, stressing the importance of the project and the necessity of spreading awareness locally about climate change and its impact on health, energy, water and food.

The project, supervised by Prof. Ahmed Al-Salaimeh from UJ, aims to establish a global center for climate change, water, energy, food and health systems, in partnership with five educational institutions and seven organizations from Jordan and the US, with a budget allocated to the university of approximately 260 thousand USD, and a total funding of 3.5 million USD.

Following the meeting, Al-Delaimy, in his capacity as the general coordinator of the project, in the presence of the university president, his deputies, the Dean of scientific research, professors, researchers, and graduate students, lectured about “Why we should be concerned about climate change and its health impact in Jordan.”
