The University of Jordan (UJ) has achieved a distinguished milestone by ranking 8th in the Arab world and 1st locally, and among the top 5% of universities globally according to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities released on August 1, 2024.
The results show a significant advancement for the university, climbing 55 places in the research excellence criterion, measured by the number of highly cited scientific papers across various disciplines. The university also made a global jump of two positions in the researcher impact index, which is based on the number of researchers who are highly influential in their scientific fields.
Expressing his delight at this achievement, UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat said, "This accomplishment reflects the university's ongoing efforts to enhance scientific research, develop programs and facilities, and equip students with skills needed to excel in the job market."
"We are proud to be at the forefront of Arab universities and look forward to continuing our efforts to achieve further progress and innovation in various academic fields," Obeidat added.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is one of the largest university rankings, covering 12,000 educational institutions from over 200 countries. It is published in February and August each year.
The ranking methodology is based on three main indicators: research impact, researcher impact, and the web impact of the university.
It is worth noting that the Webometrics Ranking has been published since 2004 by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group affiliated with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) based in Madrid.
