UJ, Peru Embassy Discuss Cooperation

The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, held discussions today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the Kingdom José Betancourt Rivera, on avenues for cooperation between the two parties in the academic and cultural fields.

The meeting was attended by UJ Vice President for International Relations and Partnerships, Prof. Nahed Emaish, and the Public Relations Officer at the Embassy, George Yacoub.

Obeidat extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador, emphasizing that UJ is the oldest university and ranks first in Jordan. He further noted the university's commitment to forging international collaborations with prestigious global universities, particularly in South America.

During the meeting, Obeidat affirmed the strong friendly relations between the two countries and underscored the importance of establishing academic ties with Peruvian universities, as he also discussed the potential for admitting Peruvian students to UJ, organizing joint meetings, facilitating student and researcher exchanges, and introducing Peruvian culture and heritage.

The Ambassador expressed his delight at visiting the university and expressed his eagerness to build academic and cultural partnerships between the university and Peruvian higher education institutions, notably the University of San Marcos, the oldest in Latin America, founded in 1551.

Besides this he congratulated the University of Jordan on its 61st anniversary and expressed his desire to meet students specializing in international studies, law, history, and the Spanish language to discuss Jordanian-Peruvian relations.
