Jordan University Hospital (JUH), in cooperation with Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and with support from the Hear the World Foundation, on Wednesday held a volunteer medical day at the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in Balqa Governorate.
The initiative included fitting 36 hearing aids for children aged 10 to 18 with hearing loss, using the latest hearing-aid technology.
The medical day was conducted by a specialised JUH team, alongside staff from the University of Jordan (UJ)’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences. It also involved JUST’s Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, with medical interns and students with an interest in ear, nose and throat (ENT) services taking part.
Audiology Consultant at JUH and Director of the Hear the World project Dr. Margaret Zuriekat said the initiative aims to help children make the most of their hearing while strengthening their educational, communication and social skills.
She added that the programme goes beyond fitting devices, providing comprehensive audiology and speech support in line with high professional standards, with plans to expand services across the Kingdom.
Head of the Hearing Department at the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf Sandy Al-Labab said the new devices are expected to make a tangible difference in the children’s daily lives by improving hearing and communication skills and supporting fuller inclusion in society.
Meanwhile, JUH Director-General Prof. Nader Al-Bsoul said the activity reflects JUH’s commitment to specialised paediatric services and to maintaining high standards of quality and care.
He also praised the partnership with the Hear the World Foundation, highlighting its direct impact on improving quality of life for children with hearing loss.
The medical day also offered free hearing and speech screenings for members of the local community in Balqa, supporting health awareness and early detection of hearing and speech disorders.
