University of Jordan joins Hiroshima peace conference, signs University Presidents for Peace Declaration

The University of Jordan (UJ) participated in the University Presidents for Peace Conference hosted by Hiroshima University, in cooperation with the Association of Arab Universities, as part of efforts to broaden international academic dialogue and advance the values of peace and sustainability.

Representing UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, Vice President for Scientific Schools Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaky presented a paper highlighting the University’s approach to promoting peace and sustainability at both local and global levels. He outlined UJ’s strategic direction and the institutional practices that translate these principles into action through teaching, research and community engagement.

Abu Karaky said the University’s strategic plan is anchored in the principles of peace, justice and good governance, alongside initiatives launched under UJ’s broader sustainability framework.

During the conference, UJ signed Hiroshima University’s University Presidents for Peace Declaration, alongside other participating Arab universities, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a culture of peace and strengthening international academic cooperation.

On the sidelines, the two sides discussed opportunities to expand academic and research collaboration between UJ and Hiroshima University, with a focus on drawing on Hiroshima’s expertise in manufacturing and technology.
