Winter University Sports Championship "Loyalty and Belonging" Kicks-off in Aqaba

President of the Sports Federation of Jordanian Universities (SFJU) and the University of Jordan, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, officially inaugurated on Monday the 23rd Winter University Sports Championship.

Organized in the city of Aqaba under the theme "Loyalty and Belonging", this year's event carries a strong message, reaffirming Jordan's sovereignty and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

Obeidat emphasized that the tournament's theme serves as a clear declaration that Jordan will not be an alternative homeland for Palestinians. He reiterated Jordan's commitment to the Palestinian people's right to their land, their identity, and Jerusalem's status as Palestinian and Arab land under Hashemite custodianship. He also voiced Jordan’s firm support of King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein.

Beyond the political message, Obeidat highlighted the importance of sports in fostering unity, friendship, and respect among participants. He emphasized that sports promote physical and mental well-being, instilling values such as discipline and teamwork, underscoring that sportsmanship is more important than simply achieving a win.

The opening ceremony was attended by university presidents and deans, with honors presented to supporting organizations. Students also took the tournament oath. The tournament, organized annually, brings together 21 Jordanian public and private universities to compete in various sports.

The four-day tournament features competitions in men's five-a-side football, women's badminton (singles and team events), and cross-country running. This year's event aims to promote sportsmanship and send a powerful message of Jordanian identity and solidarity with Palestine.
