
In an unprecedented accomplishment, Ahmad Bilal Shadid, a School of Sport Sciences student at the University of Jordan (UJ), won a gold medal in team kumite (karate fighting) at the Asian Karate Championships.
In contrast, Yara Naser, a student from the School of Pharmacy, claimed the bronze medal in individual kumite +68 kg. Their victories came as part of their participation in the championship held in Uzbekistan.
UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, congratulated both students, stating that they exemplify dedication and are a source of pride for their country and university.
Obeidat also affirmed the university’s ongoing support for both students in their journey to achieve further championships and represent Jordan in various international events.
It is worth noting that the Asian Karate Championships is considered the highest level of competition for karate in Asia. It is organised by the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) under the supervision of the World Karate Federation (WKF), comprising over 180 member countries. The WKF is the only organisation recognised by the International Olympic Committee, with more than 10 million members worldwide.
