University of Jordan Explores Cooperation with Shanghai Theatre Academy

The President of the University of Jordan (UJ), Prof. Nadhir Obeidat, met today with a delegation from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, headed by Head of the Stage Design Department, Prof. Hu Zuo, and accompanied by the Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Amman, Zhao Xiaoqiang, along with Assistant Director of the Center, Ahmed Aqrabawi.

The meeting, attended by the University’s vice presidents, Dean of Student Affairs, and his deputy, focused on strengthening academic and cultural cooperation under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

During the meeting, Obeidat emphasized the university’s keenness on building a solid and fruitful collaboration, beginning with the signing of a memorandum of understanding. He highlighted the School of Arts’ Department of Performing Arts, as well as the university’s Chinese language program, as key bridges for academic exchange.

In turn, Hu Zuo introduced the Shanghai Theatre Academy, noting its four colleges, eight specializations, and leading role in theater arts in China. He highlighted the academy’s achievements, its integration of technology and artificial intelligence in performing arts, and its interest in academic exchange and student mobility with Jordan.

The visit concluded with a tour of the School of Arts and Design, affirming the importance of institutional cooperation through a memorandum of understanding to enhance academic programs, research, and student exchange.
