The initiative aligns with the University’s strategic vision to promote high-quality research, enhance healthcare systems, and foster evidence-based innovation.

SAFE-MED aims to develop advanced scientific measures in medication safety, strengthen pharmacovigilance and safe prescribing practices, and improve the quality of medication use to reduce medication-related harm. The group’s work contributes directly to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequalities, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Quality Education, and Partnerships for the Goals.

The group’s research agenda addresses a wide range of priority areas, including adverse drug reactions, immunosuppressive therapies, psychotropic medications and antidepressants, complementary and alternative medicine, polypharmacy, medication safety among the elderly, the impact of medications on driving performance, cytotoxicity of emerging therapies, pharmacogenetics, and pharmacovigilance systems.

The research group comprises distinguished scholars from the University of Jordan, including Prof. Nailya Bulatova and Prof. Almotassem Yousef from the Department of Biopharmaceutics and Clinical Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, Prof. Akram Saleh from the Department of Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine, Prof. Violet Kasabri and Prof. Abla Mahmoud Albsoul from the Department of Biopharmaceutics and Clinical Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Maysa Suyagh from the same department, and PhD candidate Noor Faeq Mamdooh from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the School of Pharmacy.
