The University of Jordan (UJ) has launched the Regenerative Dentistry Research Group as part of its efforts to expand multidisciplinary research and strengthen evidence-based practice in oral healthcare.

The group will conduct preclinical and clinical studies covering laboratory work, in vivo research and clinical applications, with a focus on stem cells and biomaterials. Its work will explore therapeutic and technical approaches to regenerate dental tissues, as well as related bone and nerve structures.

UJ said the group will also examine stem cell isolation, methods to guide cell differentiation and the integration of stem cells with biomaterials using advanced techniques, including 3D bioprinting. The research is expected to support improved clinical outcomes and help develop longer-lasting regenerative solutions.

The group is led by School of Dentistry faculty member Prof. Heba Alzer. Members include School of Pharmacy faculty member Prof. Areej Assaf, School of Engineering faculty member Prof. Yousef Al Abdallat, School of Nursing faculty member Prof. Mohammad Saleh, and School of Dentistry researcher Dr. Siham Alarag.

It also includes University of Petra faculty member Prof. Firas Alsoleihat and University of Salento faculty member Prof. Giuseppe Gigli, who is also affiliated with the Institute of Nanotechnology at Italy’s National Research Council (CNR NANOTEC).

The team further brings together public and private sector experts, including King Hussein Cancer Center specialist Dr. Ahmad Abu Khader and Triumpharma Founder and President Dr. Ahmad Al Ghazawi, alongside PhD candidate Khair Allah Al Abdallat.

UJ said the launch strengthens its research portfolio in regenerative dentistry, supports innovative projects and empowers early-career researchers, while reinforcing the university’s regional and international presence in the field. The initiative is also expected to contribute to oral healthcare and community service in Jordan and the wider region.
