The Deanship of Scientific Research at the University of Jordan (UJ) participated in an introductory meeting hosted by the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB), which brought together Deans of Scientific Research from several Jordanian universities, as part of the Bureau’s efforts to strengthen cooperation and joint action with higher education institutions in the fields of research, development, and innovation, in line with its national strategic directions.

The Deanship was represented at the meeting by Assistant Dean for Research Collaboration Dr. Adam Tawfiq Amawi, on behalf of the Dean of Scientific Research, Prof. Yaser Al-Rayyan. The meeting aimed to enhance coordination between academic institutions and specialized national centers, and to support national priorities in scientific research, technological development, and innovation related to the defense industry.

During the meeting, a briefing was delivered on JODDB’s mandates, strategic orientations, and its role in supporting scientific research and technology localization. The briefing also highlighted the Bureau’s innovation programs and platforms, foremost among them the Creativity and Innovation Platform (JODDB Innovation Hub), as well as its initiatives that support research and applied projects in areas of national priority, and the mechanisms for submitting research and development proposals and accessing technical, laboratory, and financial support.

The meeting focused on exploring prospects for joint cooperation between JODDB and Jordanian universities in the fields of research, development, and innovation, particularly in priority areas such as unmanned aviation, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies.

Discussions also addressed supporting joint research projects, enhancing integration between the higher education and industrial sectors, and exchanging expertise and knowledge. In this context, a preliminary proposal was presented to encourage student research communities at the University of Jordan to engage with the platform and submit research and development initiatives, with the possibility of involving faculty members in the academic supervision of these projects.

The meeting concluded with a presentation of the outcomes and future cooperation prospects by the Director General of JODDB, Major General (Ret.) Engineer Ayman Al-Batran, in a manner that serves the national research and development ecosystem and contributes to achieving national objectives.
