The 32nd edition of the Fuheis Festival, held under the theme “Jordan: History and Civilisation”, honored University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Nathir Obeidat for his distinguished contributions and pioneering role in advancing the higher education Sector in Jordan.
The recognition was presented during a cultural seminar held under the patronage of Former Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Ensour and attended by the Festival’s Executive Director and President of the Fuheis Youth Club, Ayman Samawi, along with prominent academics, cultural figures, and community representatives.
The festival also recognised Dr. Emile Haddad for his contributions to the arts, Dr. Hind Abu Al-Shaar for her work in literature and history, and Zain Telecommunications for its role in supporting the national economy.
In his remarks, Ensour praised Fuheis as a city that has long preserved the Arabic language and heritage while serving as a hub for creativity and intellectual life.
Obeidat expressed his deep appreciation for the honor, noting that Fuheis embodies authenticity and devotion, emphasising that the festival is more than a cultural celebration; it is a reflection of Jordan’s spirit. He reaffirmed that education remains the cornerstone of Jordan’s strength and resilience, and that Jordanians will continue to excel and inspire through their achievements at home and abroad.
Governor of Mahis and Fuheis, Dr. Safwan Mobideen, highlighted that recognition in Jordan reflects a Hashemite tradition established by His Majesty King Abdullah II, where every sincere effort and achievement is celebrated.
Chairman of the Cultural Committee, Muhannad Al-Daoud, commended UJ’s ascent to rank among the top four per cent of universities in the region, supported by a clear strategy prioritising research, innovation, and modern education.
The ceremony concluded with expressions of gratitude from the honorees, who paid tribute to Fuheis for its cultural symbolism and enduring heritage.
