A team from the School of Law at the University of Jordan (UJ) has reached the quarter-finals of the International Commercial Arbitration Competition organised by the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), held as part of Riyadh International Disputes Week (RIDW).

The UJ team advanced to the last eight among more than 180 teams from 25 countries, with over 1,000 law students representing leading law schools worldwide.

The achievement marks the School of Law’s first participation in the competition, with the team recording a notable result at an international level.

After progressing through the online preliminary rounds, the team qualified for the in-person stage among the top 32 teams, before securing a place in the quarter-finals.

The UJ team comprised Joud Al-Ajlouni, Lama Allan, Mohammad Al-Barahmeh, Lara Bassem Melhem, Mohammad Al-Adwan and Seema Ibzakh. Their written submissions and oral pleadings received positive feedback from arbitrators and organisers.

The team competed under the supervision of Ali Abdel Mahdi Abdallah Massadeh, a faculty member in commercial law, who praised the students’ legal reasoning and their ability to address complex arbitration issues under tight preparation timelines.

The students and their supervisor expressed appreciation to UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat for his continued support, as well as to Dean of the School of Law Prof. Basem Melhem and the school’s academic and administrative staff for their assistance throughout the preparation period and during the competition.
