The University of Jordan’s (UJ) Deans’ Council held an extraordinary meeting at the University’s Agricultural Research Station in the Jordan Valley (the Ghor), to bring academic decision-making closer to operational priorities.
The off-campus meeting allowed members to review ongoing research and applied projects at the station, and to assess operational needs, challenges and opportunities first-hand.
The on-site setting helps align academic work with practical requirements across the University’s agricultural and research centres.
The Council approved strategic plans aimed at empowering students and strengthening their skills, and discussed initiatives to support students’ transition to the labour market, promote innovation, and expand career-readiness programmes to enhance graduates’ employability.
UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat urged the Council to introduce additional technical and vocational pathways to boost graduates’ competitiveness, stressing the importance of future-focused specialisations built around innovation and modern technologies.
He also called for accelerating work on a campus master plan, including dedicated gardens for each school to reinforce the campus’ environmental character and visual identity.
Obeidat said holding the meeting at the Agricultural Research Station reflects UJ’s commitment to applied scientific research, sustainability, and a stronger focus on the agricultural and environmental sectors. He added that the University will continue expanding green initiatives and strengthening the role of its research stations in serving the community and national development.
