The University of Jordan (UJ), in cooperation with the Middle East Studies Center (MESC), honored the winners of the 27th Scientific Research Prize for Jordanian Universities’ Students during a ceremony held under the patronage of UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat.

The ceremony was attended by the Head of the Middle East Studies Center and Chair of the Award’s Supervisory Committee Eng. Jawad Mohammad, along with a number of UJ deans and academic supervisors from Jordanian universities.

Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the patron, Dean of Scientific Research Prof. Yaser Al-Rayyan emphasized that the award represents an important national platform for identifying promising young researchers and fostering a culture of scientific research and innovation among Jordanian university students. He reaffirmed UJ’s commitment to supporting young researchers and enhancing academic collaboration in ways that serve society and contribute to the knowledge economy.

Al-Rayyan announced the final results of the award, noting that 364 students from 25 Jordanian universities applied across various scientific and humanities disciplines. Of these, 24 students advanced to the final stage of the competition, which extended from early March until the end of September 2025. He added that the submitted research papers underwent rigorous scientific evaluation and personal interviews conducted by specialized committees of distinguished academics.

The competition covered 18 research topics within three main axes, addressing Jordanian, Arab, Islamic, and global issues, as well as the Arab-Israeli conflict.

For his part, Eng. Jawad Mohammad expressed pride in the level demonstrated by the participating students, praising their research creativity and commending the efforts of deans of scientific research at Jordanian universities for their role in supporting students.

Student Mahmoud Al-Masa‘fa delivered a speech on behalf of the award winners, highlighting the role of scientific research in empowering Jordanian youth and describing the award as a starting point toward academic and research excellence.

According to the announced results, the committee decided to withhold the first prize, as no participant achieved a score of 85 percent or higher. Second place was awarded to Qabas Hamdan Hussein Al-Batoush (BSc in Civil Engineering, Yarmouk University), while third place went to Noor Walid Najm (MA in Media, Middle East University). Joint fourth place was awarded to Laith Khaled Qais and Bisan Bilal Kanaan (BSc in Pharmacy, Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan), Mahmoud Atef Al-Masa‘fa (MA in Law, University of Jordan), and Lubna Nader Harb (MA in Islamic Studies, University of Jordan).

The ceremony also recognized students whose research reached the evaluation and interview stages but did not secure winning positions. It concluded with the presentation of certificates and awards to the winners and honorees, as well as the recognition of members of the scientific review and interview committees from several Jordanian universities.
