The International Affairs Unit at the University of Jordan (UJ), in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), organised an informative session highlighting various individual and project funding opportunities offered by DAAD to students and researchers.
Introducing the session, Unit Director, Dr. Sameh Al-Zubaidi, said it is part of UJ’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international academic ties and provide its students and researchers with access to globally competitive opportunities.
The session was inaugurated by Professor Hebatallah Fathy, DAAD Regional Director, who welcomed participants and reaffirmed DAAD’s dedication to fostering academic exchange and international cooperation. The event witnessed significant attendance from UJ students and faculty members, reflecting a growing interest in pursuing international academic and research opportunities.
Participants were introduced to DAAD’s mission to promote global academic collaboration and the essential eligibility criteria for scholarships, including academic excellence, relevance of study programs, and language proficiency.
A comprehensive overview of DAAD's graduate and postgraduate scholarship programs was presented, with a particular focus on funding opportunities for master’s studies in STEM fields—such as engineering, mathematics, and natural sciences—as well as specialized programs like the Helmut-Schmidt Programme (Public Policy and Good Governance), and Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS), which support disciplines including economics, agriculture, and public health.
The session also addressed scholarship opportunities available for graduates in the arts, covering fields such as architecture, fine arts, and performing arts. Furthermore, DAAD doctoral scholarships were presented, which are open to all disciplines and require applicants to submit a research proposal, academic qualifications, and proof of academic supervision by a university professor.
In addition to individual funding, the session introduced project-based funding opportunities implemented in cooperation with German higher education institutions. These include initiatives such as the Ta’ziz Partnership – Short-Term Measure, the Higher Education Dialogue with the Muslim World, and the SDG Partnership, all of which aim to foster academic dialogue and capacity building aligned with global development goals.
