UJ Launches Women's Studies Center Alumni Forum

On the occasion of International Women's Day, University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, launched the Alumni Forum of the Women's Studies Center. The event took place in the presence of vice presidents, deans, faculty members, administrative staff, local community leaders, and former graduates of the center.

Obeidat addressed the women of the University of Jordan, Jordan, and Gaza, emphasizing their inherent strength, capability, and strong personality. He highlighted the achievements of women in education, creativity, and other fields, emphasizing their role as leaders and guardians of passion, equality, and opponents of hunger, poverty, and ignorance.

Obeidat acknowledged the challenges faced by mothers in Gaza, who struggle to feed their children amid uncertainty about their safety. He contrasted the experiences of women in the northern hemisphere, celebrating without facing violence, hunger, cold, or sorrow, with those in the southern hemisphere who endure the smell of killing, destruction, hunger, deprivation, and insecurity.

He concluded by affirming that women in this blessed country will remain influential in their homes and workplaces, working alongside men to make Jordan a beautiful country under the noble Hashemite leadership.

Prof. Amal Al-Awawdeh, Director of the Women's Studies Center, stated that the event aimed to commemorate the significant achievements of Jordanian and Arab women in the fields of science, knowledge, work, and public life. She stressed the progress made in legislation supporting women's rights and protection against discrimination and violence.

Regarding the challenges facing women, especially in times of wars and conflicts, Al-Awawdeh highlighted the struggles of Gaza women, symbolizing the collapse of human values, the dominance of double standards, and the impact of international law that has long been considered a standard by Western societies.

She noted that this year's International Women's Day focuses on the Palestinian women of Gaza, who have faced genocide, hunger, thirst, and disease. The discussion also included an examination of human rights and women's rights discourse, featuring Samer Al-Haj Hasan, the Chairperson of the National Center for Human Rights, and Prof. Abeer Dababneh, a member of the Independent Election Commission Council.

Obeidat honored outstanding graduates of the Women's Studies Center, acknowledging their contributions to academic and professional life. He also received the center's shield of honor in recognition of his continuous support for the center's activities.
