The University of Jordan (UJ) on Wednesday received a delegation representing the Turkish Council of Higher Education (CoHE) and presidents of five Turkish universities and the accompanying delegation.
UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat said the university hopes to increase cooperation with Turkish universities in training, research and teaching the Turkish language.
For his part, CoHE Deputy President Prof. Huseyin Karaman said the Turkish Council "will do everything in its power to support the Turkish language programme at the University of Jordan," adding that 8,000 Jordanians are enrolled in Turkish universities.
During the meeting, UJ signed academic exchange agreements as part of the Erasmus Plus programme with each of Gazi, Ankara and Hacitepe universities. It also signed memorandums of understanding with Istanbul Technical University and Marmara University to constitute a framework to launch academic cooperation between the two parties.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the Language Center and the programs it offers, especially the Arabic language program for non-native speakers. The delegation also visited the Turkish Corner at the School of Foreign Languages, and the Folklore and Antiquities Museums.
