The University of Jordan (UJ) and the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday aimed at enhancing academic and research collaboration in the field of electric energy and benefiting from the mutual expertise of both parties.
The MoU was signed by UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, and NEPCO’s Director General, Dr. Sufian Al-Batayneh, in the presence of several officials from both institutions.
The MoU outlines various areas of collaboration, including the implementation of joint research and projects, provision of technical consultations, exchange of information and visits, organization of lectures and scientific courses, and shared use of available facilities, equipment, and software to support research and development objectives.
Additionally, the agreement includes organizing local and international conferences and workshops, joint supervision of master’s theses, and supporting the University of Jordan’s membership in the Jordanian National Committee of CIGRÉ and participation in its committees.
Both parties emphasized their commitment to effectively implementing the memorandum’s provisions in ways that serve their mutual interests, particularly in terms of exchanging expertise and training students to apply knowledge in practical settings. They also highlighted the importance of translating scientific research outcomes into real-world applications and emphasized the need to study the experiences of developed countries in advancing modern electrical systems and working to bridge the technological gap in this field.
The signing ceremony was attended by Vice President for Scientific Schools Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaki, Dean of the School of Engineering Prof. Menwer Attarakih Al-Abbady, and Dr. Suhban Al-Nasser from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Representing NEPCO were Assistant Director General for Planning and Bulk Supply Engineer Ahmed Al-Dahani, and Production Planning Director Engineer Imad Abu Lahia.
