The Director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan (UJ), Prof. Hassan Momani, received in his office today British constitutional expert and governance advisor to the UK Government, Sir Paul Silk, who is visiting Jordan to gain insight into national efforts in political and economic modernization, and to ensure that UK support programs are aligned with Jordan’s priorities in this field.
He was accompanied by Deputy Head of the Political Section at the British Embassy Raja Sakandar Ali.
During the meeting, Momani presented brief the guest on the Center’s work and research, highlighting its key achievements, studies, and national surveys that contribute to supporting decision-makers and enhancing scientific understanding of political and social issues.
The discussion also addressed the geopolitical conditions in Jordan and the region and their impact on national priorities. Momani noted that regional tensions have shifted priorities from economic focus to security considerations, bringing additional challenges.
Momani further reviewed Jordan’s political and economic modernization vision, stressing the importance of empowering political parties to foster a positive political culture and enhance public participation. He also emphasized the need to advance education and develop skills to build a generation capable of producing and commercializing knowledge in ways that support economic growth.
For his part, Silk expressed appreciation for the role of the Center in investigating local and regional developments, noting the importance of these insights in aligning British support with Jordan’s modernization priorities across political and economic tracks.
Sir Paul’s visit comes as part of an official visit aimed at deepening the UK’s understanding of the Jordanian Government’s priorities in the political modernization process and exploring the best ways to support these efforts in the coming phase.
