​The University of Jordan’s (UJ) Council of Deans decided to appoint Prof. Omar Yaghi as Honorary Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the School of Science, in recognition of his prestigious scientific achievements, all of which are of great importance in the world today.

Yaghi holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois-Urbana (1990) in the United States, and has till now published 352 research papers in dedicated international journals, receiving over 178,554 citations, according to Scopus.

Yaghi is considered one of the most influential scientists in the world in the field of chemistry, ranking second globally according to Thompson Reuters 2011. He is currently a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the Founding Director of the Berkeley Global Science Institute. He is also the Co-Director of the Kavli Energy NanoScience Institute, and the California Research Alliance by BASF.
