The University of Jordan (UJ) has announced the launch of a new research group, "Arab Shakespeare," dedicated to studying Arabic plays, films, and television adaptations of William Shakespeare's works.
Supervised by Professor Safi Mahfouz from the UJ-Aqaba Branch, the group aims to analyse these adaptations, mirroring global adaptations in Spanish, French, and German. It seeks to foster research collaboration between English literature professors at UJ, British, American, and Arab universities.
The group includes prominent scholars from UJ, the UK, the US, and Arab universities, and aims to attract researchers interested in studying Arabic Shakespeare adaptations, a relatively new field, contributing to literary and critical studies regionally and globally. The initiative aligns with UJ's vision to promote scientific research and support faculty and researchers.
The group comprises Prof. Yousef Abu Amrieh from UJ, Amman; Prof. Maragaret Litvin from Boston University, USA; Prof. Graham Holderness from the University of Hertfordshire, U.K; Prof. Paul Innes from United Arab Emirates University (UAEU); Dr. Ayman Mohammad Abu-Shomar from UJ-Aqaba; Dr. Wael J. Salam from UJ-Aqaba, Prof. Abdullah Al-'Amar from UJ-Aqaba; Prof. Bassel Alzboun from UJ-Aqaba; and PhD student at UJ Ala' Aldojan.
