UJ Holds Webinar on Use of Design Thinking in Higher Education

The University of Jordan (UJ) School of Business held a webinar on the use of design thinking in higher education as part of a training course targeting faculty members organized in cooperation with the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center.

The webinar was presented by Dr. Bo Kelestyn, associate professor and design thinking expert at the University of Warwick’s business school in the United Kingdom.

The session was attended by faculty and staff members from the School of Business, as well as the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Agriculture, Foreign Languages, Arts, Educational Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences and Law. 

The lecturer began the webinar with an interactive discussion about the fundamentals of design thinking and its usages, during which she guided the participants on how to utilize design thinking in co-creating the learning experience and applying it to their work. Kelestyn also presented examples applied at Warwick University and her approach to teaching design thinking across all study levels. 

Dean of the School of Business, Prof. Ra'ed Masa'deh Bani Yasseen, indicated that the webinar is aligned with the School’s vision of building the capacity of its staff and developing its programs and study plans, stressing that collaborating with experts in various fields and from different countries opens up learning opportunities for faculty and help achieve the programs’ intended learning outcomes.

Assistant Dean for Quality Assurance, Dr. Rima Wahid Al Hasan, stated that developing teaching and education requires innovative methodologies such as design thinking, emphasizing the importance of design thinking in higher education and academic activities for getting an in-depth understanding of the stakeholders' needs, conducting outstanding research, and in developing the learning process.
