The University of Jordan’s (UJ) School of Archaeology and Tourism, led by Prof. Nabil Ali, participated in a specialised training programme on “The Use of Modern Digital Technologies in the Preservation and Documentation of Archaeological Finds” at the Institute for Digital Cultural Heritage Studies (DKES), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich). The programme was held from 31 August to 13 September 2025.

Backed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the regional initiative brought together participants from UJ, LMU Munich and Egypt’s Fayoum and Alexandria universities. The course combined theoretical lectures with hands-on workshops, field visits to museums and live demonstrations of cutting-edge digital infrastructure, exposing attendees to techniques that strengthen preservation, documentation and academic presentation of artefacts.

Participants gained practical experience in methods such as 3D scanning, photogrammetry and digital archiving, and explored how these tools can be integrated into teaching, research and museum practice. The programme organisers emphasised the role of digitalisation in widening access to collections and supporting international research collaboration.

During the visit, the UJ delegation met with Chair of Digital Cultural Heritage Studies at DKES Prof. Dr. Nicola Lercari, where discussions focused on opportunities to expand academic cooperation and student exchange between the two institutions. Both sides expressed commitment to pursuing joint workshops and student placements that would deepen collaboration and transfer technical expertise.
