UJ Marks International Museum Day

​The School of Archeology and Tourism at the University of Jordan (UJ) on Sunday marked the International Museum Day, which falls on the eighteenth of May, according to the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

Deputizing the President, UJ Vice President for Humanities School Prof. Salameh Naimat, said at the inauguration ceremony of the celebration, that the university attaches great importance to supporting educational practices with applied aspects, adding that UJ's administration views the two museums on campus as a prominent model for teaching instruments.

Dean of the School, Prof. Mahmoud Arinat, said this year's celebration comes under the theme "Museums, Sustainability and Quality of Life", with the aim of strengthening the bond between museums and society, interaction between culture and nature, as well as understanding the culture of societies and the true meaning of a comprehensive educational experience.

The event comprised an introductory lecture presented by Dr. Moaz Al-Fuqaha and Professor Tariq Muhairat. The lecture introduced the museums of antiquities and heritage on campus, their educational role, holdings and techniques of presentation.

It also displayed their goals, denoted in complementing the educational process, deepening knowledge of Jordan's cultural heritage, assisting researchers, and building bridges of scientific and intellectual cooperation with institutions of common interest and the local community.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, a number of educational activities took place, held in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs and UJ School, and included drawing sessions and clay workshops, straw baskets making, mosaics and photography classes.
