
The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, mourns with deep sadness and sorrow, the passing of Professor of Chemistry at the School of Science, Laila Al-Hanaina.
Al-Hanaina was the first Jordanian woman to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry. She joined the Department of Chemistry at the School of Science in 1966, becoming one of its founding members. Throughout her career, she held prestigious academic and administrative positions and published numerous scientific papers.
Obeidat stated that Al-Hanaina left behind a commendable academic legacy and made a significant impact on UJ. She was a model of academic dedication in both teaching and research, and with her passing, the university has lost one of its founders who helped shape its high academic standards.
Obeidat also recalled her contributions on both national and academic levels and her role in advancing the School of Science. She was among its early pioneers who left notable marks and a commendable legacy in the development and progress of Jordanian and Arab universities, dedicating her life to advancing science and guiding future generations.
UJ extends deepest condolences to her family and loved ones, praying that God Almighty grants mercy on her soul, and provides patience and solace to her family, friends, and students.
