The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, met today with the Chargé d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Amman, Mohammed Ibrahim Abu Khuzam, and the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy, Ahmed Al-Banouni, to discuss ways to enhance academic cooperation between University and the Libyan Embassy.
Particularly, the visit aimed to discuss increasing the number of Libyan students studying at the university and prospects of collaboration with Libyan higher education institutions.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Director of the International Program, Alumni, and Marketing Unit at the university, Obeidat welcomed the prospect of attracting more Libyan students, highlighting the university’s advanced academic infrastructure and its distinguished educational programs across various disciplines, particularly in the medical, engineering, and technological fields.
He noted that the university includes globally ranked faculties, such as the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, School of Pharmacy, and the School of Nursing, which ranked 47th globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025. He also mentioned the newly launched Aeronautical Engineering/Maintenance program, developed in collaboration with the Jordan Aircraft Maintenance Company (JorAMCo), describing it as a significant step forward in applied engineering education.
For his part, Abu Khuzam expressed his appreciation for the University of Jordan, praising its strong academic reputation regionally and internationally, as well as the stimulating educational and research environment it offers. He conveyed the Libyan side’s desire to expand cooperation, especially in medical training in rare specialties such as cardiology and oncology, affirming that the university stands as a prominent academic institution with a leading global position.
He also commended the university’s programs and specializations, noting the promising areas in which cooperation can be strengthened between both parties. He also pointed out that Jordan’s geographical proximity to Libya and the cultural and social similarities make it an attractive destination for Libyan students and ease their integration.
Additionally, the Cultural Attaché at the Libyan Embassy confirmed the embassy’s readiness to make every effort to strengthen mutual cooperation and increase the number of Libyan students at the university.
