By Suha Al Subaihi - In a step reflecting the University of Jordan's (UJ) commitment to strengthening its international partnerships, UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, discussed today with the Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, Asari Hideki, ways to enhance joint academic cooperation.
Obeidat welcomed Ambassador Hideki and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in advancing higher education. He pointed out that the University is striving to provide students with diverse cultural experiences through student exchange programs and short-term training abroad. He also highlighted the University’s interest in collaborating with Japanese higher education institutions in areas such as economics and technology, particularly artificial intelligence, given Japan's expertise in this field.
Obeidat also discussed the possibility of offering doctoral scholarships in artificial intelligence and fostering collaboration with the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, as well as increasing student and faculty exchanges, and supporting the teaching of the Japanese language at the School of Foreign Languages.
For his part, the Japanese Ambassador emphasized the deep-rooted relations between the two friendly countries that have spanned over seven decades. The Ambassador stated his interest in learning more about UJ, acknowledging it as a leading university in Jordan and the wider region. He also pledged his commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two sides, exploring further collaborations with Japanese universities.
The meeting was attended by the university’s Vice President for Scientific Schools, Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaki, and Vice President for Humanities Schools, Prof. Nahed Emaish.
Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming the importance of this partnership in supporting cultural and academic relations between Jordan and Japan and their commitment to furthering these ties in the future.
