UJ Team Wins 2nd Place at English Language Olympia 2024

​The University of Jordan (UJ) team, dubbed Arabian Oryx, secured the second place at the English Language Testing category of the 2024 English Language Olympia – Universities which was held for the first time in Jordan from 5th -7th December.

UJ's team, Arabian Oryx, also ranked fifth worldwide in the same competition. The event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in collaboration with MASA for International Exams, under the theme: "National Heritage."

The university was represented by a distinguished team of students from diverse academic disciplines: Diana Abdo, Maya Al-Jada'an, Menna Allah Al-Najjar, Fares Yaqoub, and Rami Al-Shara’, under the supervision of Dr. Duaa Salameh.

This initiative aims to enhance students’ English language proficiency using modern methods, while also developing their leadership and entrepreneurial abilities. The competition seeks to refine teamwork skills, promote community service and research, and apply these capabilities in ways that benefit both academic and professional spheres.

Participants were given the opportunity to engage in creative thinking and break away from traditional patterns through a unique educational experience that highlights the university’s role as a representative of its community on the global stage.

The event featured 57 teams representing 24 Jordanian higher education institutions, alongside teams from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine, and Bahrain. The Olympiad spanned three days and included five main categories: theatrical performance, project presentation, English language testing, community service, and teamwork.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Azmi Mahafzah, the Secretary-General of the Ministry and Chair of the Supreme Council of the Global University English Language Olympia, Prof. Mamoun Al-Dubai, as well as UJ Vice President for Humanities Schools, Prof. Nahed Emaish, several presidents of public and private Jordanian universities, and a number of Arab cultural attachés and advisors based in Amman.
