The University of Jordan (UJ), through the Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II School of Political Science and International Studies, hosted a lecture by Minister of Interior Mazin Al Farrayeh titled “The Ministry of Interior and Jordanian National Security.” The minister highlighted the Ministry’s dual mission of safeguarding national sovereignty while addressing humanitarian priorities, stressing that cooperation between citizens and security institutions serves as a crucial safeguard of Jordan’s stability.

Al Farrayeh affirmed that national security forms the backbone of the state’s stability and represents the most valuable investment a government can make, regardless of its cost. He emphasized that raising public awareness is essential to preserving stability and reducing the overall cost of maintaining security.

He outlined the key challenges facing Jordan’s national security, most notably the instability of the regional environment and its direct impact on the Kingdom. He also cited cross-border drug smuggling, infiltration attempts, poverty, and unemployment as major factors influencing national security and social cohesion.

The minister underscored that maintaining unity and social harmony depends largely on collective responsibility and public awareness, noting that national security is a shared duty between the security apparatus and society as a whole. He added that fostering a culture of responsibility and prioritizing the public interest are vital to ensuring Jordan’s stability and resilience.

Addressing students, Al Farrayeh urged them to play an active and constructive role in their communities, preserve national achievements, and strengthen their professional and social capacities alongside their academic studies. He noted that cultivating awareness early in life fosters achievement and deepens a sense of citizenship.

He further highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to support economic growth through initiatives such as the introduction of long-term travel visas valid for up to three years and the facilitation of investment-based citizenship, through which 592 investors have obtained Jordanian nationality. He also pointed to measures that eased travel procedures for Syrian nationals from Syria and Europe through travel agencies, a step that boosted tourism and increased national revenues.

At the end of the lecture, Al Farrayeh responded to questions from the audience about the Ministry’s policies, mechanisms for maintaining national security, and the procedures followed by security agencies.

Dean of the Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II School of Political Science and International Studies Prof. Mohammad  Ayadat commended the resilience of Jordanians and the wisdom of the Hashemite leadership in maintaining stability amid regional turmoil. He emphasized that Jordan’s security and military institutions remain the backbone of the state, ensuring its strength and endurance in the face of internal and external challenges.

The lecture reaffirmed UJ’s role as a national platform for dialogue, linking academic knowledge with policymaking and promoting civic awareness.
