The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, on Monday
discussed with a legal delegation from the United Nations potential academic and
research cooperation between the two parties in the legal fields.
The delegation comprised of Director of the Law Department at the
United Nations Environment Programme Prof. Patricia Mbote; Professor of Law and
chair of UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development at Hamad
Bin Khalifa University, Prof. Damilola Olawuyi; Jackline Wanjiru from the Law
Division of the United Nations Environment Programme; and UNESCO Chair research
fellow at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Elina Athwal; in addition to Association
of Environmental Law Lecturers in the Middle East and North African Universities
(ASSELLMU) representative, Dr. Omar Al-Khataibeh.
During the meeting, in presence of Dr. Ghufran Helal and Dr. Hadeel
Al-Zoubi, the two sides discussed research and academic cooperation
opportunities between UJ and the United Nations and Hamad Bin Khalifa University
in Qatar, especially with regard to the fields of environmental law studies and
UNESCO Chair on Environment Law and Sustainable Development at Hamad Bin Khalifa
University.
The meeting comes on the sidelines of the 4th MENA environmental law
scholars' conference titled "Law on Biodiversity, Nature Conservation in the
Middle East and North African (MENA) Region" which kicked off Monday at the
University of Jordan under the patronage of its President, Prof. Nathir
Obeidat.
