The University of Jordan’s (UJ) libraries received a contribution of 600 books from Gansu Province, China, during an official ceremony attended by representatives from the Chinese Embassy and an official delegation from the province.
The event, hosted by the School of Foreign Languages, aims to strengthen cultural and academic ties between the two sides.
The Director General of Gansu’s Department of Culture and Tourism described the books as a cultural bridge between the Chinese and Jordanian peoples, highlighting Gansu’s historic role along the Silk Road and its significance as a land of rich civilizational history, comparable to Jordan, which is also considered a land of civilizations.
Dr. Marwan Al-Jarrah, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, praised the ongoing support from the Chinese Embassy and Cultural Center. He noted that the books will enrich the university’s collection and support students in the Chinese Language Program.
The event included welcoming remarks, the book handover, a lecture on traditional Chinese medicine, and a Chinese tea art demonstration.
