Suha Alsubaihi- Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Jordan (UJ), has honored Architecture students who achieved "Honorable Mention" in the Tamayouz Excellence Award 2024 – Diwan Award for Architecture. The recognition took place during the signing ceremony of an agreement between "Tamayouz Excellence Award" and UJ.
The agreement seeks to establish a joint framework that facilitates the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and expertise, while also opening new horizons for collaborative efforts. The signing ceremony took place at UJ campus, and signed by the President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, and the coordinator of the Tamayoz Award in the Middle East and North Africa, Engineer Osaid Al-Eitan.
The honored students— Ahmad Khaled Makawi, Yamen Talal Alhattab, Mohammad Omar Alqaissiah,—received an "Honorable Mention" for their participating design in the Iraq Pavilion Design Competition, designing Iraq Pavilion for a Global Exposition at the Baghdad International Fairgrounds
The students' design, dubbed "Siraj", was supervised by Dr. Deyala Al-Tarawneh and was inspired by the "House of Wisdom," the first scientific institution established during the Islamic Golden Age under the Abbasid Caliph Harun Al-Rashid. The competition included 188 participants from architectural firms and university students from 34 countries worldwide.
The students' design is considered an innovative project that has distinguished itself with its sophisticated spatial arrangements and seamless navigation, showcasing a remarkable level of design maturity.
“This project showcases an intriguing approach to massing and the thoughtful integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. Inspired by the House of Wisdom, the narrative is compelling and contributes a strong conceptual foundation. The design process is clear, with rationally distributed functions and a well-balanced interplay between enclosed and open areas. The project’s circulation and environmental control strategies are commendable, reflecting a sophisticated understanding of spatial organization," the judging panel noted about the project.
The School's dean, Prof. Menwer Attarakih, told UJ News that the School strives to provide excellent education and build international partnerships that enable students to participate in global initiatives and competitions, commending the students for their distinction.
The ceremony was attended by the vice deans, assistants, and the Chairman of the Department of Architecture.
