UJ's International Heritage Exhibition Reflects Cultural Diversity and Civilizational Convergence

​Rich arrays of cultures showcased at the International Heritage Exhibition at the University of Jordan (UJ), bringing together diverse civilizations and dialects in a cultural event that celebrated cultural diversity among students.

Organized by the Deanship of Student Affair at Al-Hassan Bin Talal Auditorium, the exhibition features contributions from student communities representing 18 countries from the Arab world and beyond. It serves as a bridge connecting nations and a platform to explore the cultural diversity within the university community.

Visitors interested in global cultures and heritage are invited to explore the exhibition's booths, each representing a participating country. These booths display cultural artifacts such as traditional crafts, clothing, historical publications, photographs, and traditional foods and desserts popular in each nation.

Opening Remarks

On behalf of UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, the Vice President for Scientific Schools, Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaki, inaugurated the event with an address in which he expressed honor in celebrating cultural diversity, emphasizing the enriching role of international students within the academic community and their contribution to fostering cooperation and understanding among countries. Abu Karaki thanked the students for choosing the University of Jordan as their academic home and encouraged them to take full advantage of academic and social opportunities to realize their ambitions.

In his speech, delivered in the presence of ambassadors, cultural advisors, university officials, and a large gathering of Jordanian and international students, Abu Karaki reaffirmed the university's belief in education as a bridge between cultures, highlighting the distinct talents and experiences each student brings, assuring the university's continued support for their academic journey.

Unique Educational Experience

Abu Karaki highlighted the university's integration of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence into its curricula. He indicated that courses targeting career preparation and skill enhancement have become mandatory, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thus preparing students to excel in competitive job markets.

Cultural Ambassadors

Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Safwan Al Shiyab, expressed pride in UJ being home to students from over 80 nationalities, emphasizing their role not just as learners but as ambassadors of their countries. Al Shiyab encouraged students to cherish their cultures and actively engage in the vibrant cultural exchange the event offers.

Artistic Performances

The opening ceremony featured various artistic performances showcasing the heritage and cultures of participating countries, including poetry, traditional dances, and musical pieces that celebrated their rich traditions.

Exhibition Details

The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, historical information, and explore the cultural developments of various countries. It features displays of traditional artifacts, handicrafts, photographs, traditional attire, and culinary delights, offering an immersive cultural experience.

Participating Countries

Countries participating in the exhibition includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Qatar, Oman, Indonesia, Libya, Turkey, Thailand, Tunisia, Senegal, Bahrain, Syria, China, Yemen, Nigeria, and Jordan.

Distinguished Attendees

The exhibition’s opening was attended by ambassadors and cultural attachés from several countries, including Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, Indonesia, Thailand, and Yemen.  Representatives from the cultural missions of China, Philippines, and Russia, among others, also attended the ceremony.

This annual event continues to serve as a cultural beacon, enriching the lives of students and fostering a deeper appreciation for the shared heritage of humanity.
