A student team named "ARFL"; comprised of Alaa Kanakri from the Mechatronics Engineering Department, Mohammad Kassab from the Mechanical Engineering Department, and Mohammad Abu Adas from the Computer Science Department in the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology at the University of Jordan (UJ), along with students from other Jordanian universities, won the first place of the Orange Summer Challenge 2024 held by Orange Jordan.
This team will represent Jordan in the competition at the Middle East and Africa level.
The team’s project involves developing an advanced robot capable of detecting potholes in streets using artificial intelligence technologies. The robot is designed to identify the pothole’s exact location and create a suitable mixture of sand, cement, and water to fill and repair the hole.
UJ Engineering students also claimed second and third places. Mona Salim from the Mechatronics Engineering Department and Zaid Baklizi from the Mechanical Engineering Department won second place with their project “Saverbot,” while Anas Al-Akhras from the Mechanical Engineering Department won third place with his team’s project, “Phytobase.”
The Orange Summer Challenge is a comprehensive initiative led by Orange Digital Center, designed to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital skill development among Jordan’s youth. The summer challenge is a competitive training program that runs from July to September, offering university students the chance to transform innovative ideas into real projects. Each edition focuses on a specific theme, and participants receive training from experts in software and modern technology, along with personal skill development.
The University of Jordan, especially the School of Engineering, is proud of this achievement and wishes its students success in the upcoming stages of this challenge.
