The School of Foreign Languages at the University of Jordan (UJ) celebrated the 24th International Italian Language Week (October 14-20). The event, held in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Amman, themed "Italian Language and Books: The World between the Lines" and attended by the Italian Ambassador, Luciano Pezzotti, along with several embassy members.
In his speech, Ambassador Pezzotti emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural and educational exchanges between Jordan and Italy, highlighting the significant role of language and culture in fostering relations between the two countries.
Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Marwan Jarrah, welcomed the attendees, praising the strong cultural ties between Jordan and Italy. He also stressed the importance of this event in promoting academic cooperation between the school and the embassy and supporting Italian language education at UJ.
The celebration featured several events, including special video presentations by students from the University of Jordan, the Hashemite University, Al-Hussein Technical University, the American University of Madaba, and Al al-Bayt University sharing their experiences with the Italian language and culture. Moreover, students from UJ presented a narrative segment in which they discussed Italian books they had read and explained how these books enhanced their understanding of the Italian culture.
In a lecture titled "Italian between the Lines," Dr. Mahmoud Al-Jarn, Professor of Italian Language and Literature at the university, spoke about the influence of Italian literature on global culture. Dr. Saber Mahmoud Abdel-Muttalib, from Al al-Bayt University, delivered a lecture on "The Global Book of Pinocchio," exploring the global dimensions of The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi.
At the end of the event, Ambassador Pezzotti honored Wisal Nassar, a student from Al al-Bayt University, who won the translation competition organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Dante Alighieri Society in Amman.
Additionally, Zain Sunna', a student from the University of Jordan and recipient of the Dante Alighieri Society Scholarship, was recognized. Sunna'shared details of her educational experience in Italy, highlighting the academic opportunities provided by the scholarship.
