The University of Jordan (UJ) has launched a specialized research group focused on Type 1 Diabetes, underscoring UJ’s commitment to advancing healthcare research and improving the quality of life for children and young adults affected by this chronic disease.
The group aims to expand access to insulin in low-resource communities, promote health education for effective self-management, and study the prevalence and complications of Type 1 Diabetes in the region. It also seeks to develop affordable, culturally adapted healthcare solutions and support the establishment of a national patient registry in Jordan.
The Type 1 Diabetes Research Group includes Prof. Abeer Al-Assaf and Prof. Rasha Odeh from UJ’s School of Medicine; Prof. Diana Hashem Arabiat from the School of Nursing; Dr. Munther Al-Momani, Dr. Dana Hyassat, and Dr. Nahla Al-Khawaja from the National Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Genetics; Dr. Lubna Gharaibeh from Amman Arab University; Prof. Ondrej Cinek from Charles University in the Czech Republic; and researcher and medical student Farah Bani Hani.
Through collaborative research, workshops, and evidence-based studies, the group seeks to inform national policy and improve healthcare services for individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes.
