The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) celebrated on Monday the graduation of its 16th cohort of Master’s students in Journalism and New Media, totaling 14 graduates.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali, in the presence of the University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, Minister of Government Communication Dr. Mohammad Momani, along with several officials, academics, media professionals, and families of the graduates.
Princess Rym presented the certificates to the graduates, accompanied by Obeidat and JMI Dean Dr. Mirna Abou Zeid. Her Royal Highness expressed her pride in the graduates and congratulated them and their families on their achievement.
In his remarks, Obeidat expressed his appreciation for the partnership with JMI as a pioneering media and academic institution, voicing his pride in the graduation of a new group of media professionals who will contribute positively to advancing and elevating Jordan’s media landscape.
For her part, Abu Zeid congratulated the students, urging them to make journalism a tool for service, not fame, to write the truth as it must be told, and to remember that a sincere word can awaken consciences. She advised them to be the voice, not the echo; to seek what lies beyond the surface; to uphold human rights in the face of oppression without compromise; to preserve the ethics and integrity of journalism; and to remember that credibility is an identity, not a choice, calling on them to carry the cause of humanity in all they do.
The ceremony featured filmmaker, writer, journalist, producer, and visual artist Jehane Noujaim as the keynote speaker. In her speech, Noujaim focused on the concept of “narrative,” which she described as the foundation of journalistic work. She also reflected on her journey into journalism and the key experiences that strengthened her belief in the need to uncover and report the truth.
Graduate Tariq Al-Awrani, who ranked first in his class, delivered a speech on behalf of his peers, expressing the joy and pride they share and recounting their journey at the Institute, the memories they created, and the challenges and experiences that marked their time together.
