The Center for Women’s Studies at the University of Jordan (UJ) has launched a new feminist capacity-building project, a strategic initiative aimed at empowering female students and graduates by enhancing their leadership and professional skills and encouraging their active participation across various sectors of society.

During the launching event, Director of the Center, Dr. Amal Al-Awawda, highlighted the strong cooperation between the University and national institutions in promoting gender equality, advancing community development, and aligning academic training with labour market demands.

A representative of the project Enhancing Women’s Political and Economic Participation in Jordan, implemented by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ),  underscored the importance of practical training in facilitating a smooth transition for students into professional environments.

As part of the new project, participants will engage directly with institutions working in the areas of women's rights and development. The program includes vocational workshops, capacity-building sessions, and networking opportunities. Rooted in feminist principles, the initiative fosters experiential, inclusive, and transformative learning.

Partner institutions include the Independent Election Commission, Politics and Society Institute, Jordanian Women’s Union, Sisterhood Is Global Institute, Business and Professional Women Association, Al-Hayat Center–Rased, Jordanian National Commission for Women, Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development, Higher Population Council, National Council for Family Affairs, and Darbzin.

More than a training initiative, the project embodies a broader vision of structural empowerment, providing space for women to lead, influence, and shape both public discourse and professional practice.
