The University of Jordan (UJ) launched a new research group dedicated to Rheumatic Diseases (RD), an initiative aimed at enhancing patient care through rigorous scientific research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The group seeks to improve the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of rheumatic diseases by linking scientific research with clinical practice and drawing on both local and international expertise.
The research team focuses on studying the underlying mechanisms of autoimmune rheumatic diseases, developing new diagnostic tools, and utilizing advanced medical imaging technologies and artificial intelligence to support early diagnosis and treatment.
The group also investigates disease burden, risk factors, and disparities in access to healthcare, with the aim of informing health policies and improving service accessibility. Its research further explores musculoskeletal and systemic complications such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular risks, as well as the impact of lifestyle-related factors, such as physical activity, nutrition, and psychosocial support, on patient outcomes.
The group has established strong partnerships with local and international institutions, including the Ministry of Health, the Jordanian Society for Rheumatic Diseases, the University of Illinois, the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, Saint Joseph University in Lebanon, and several pharmaceutical companies.
The research group is comprised of a distinguished team of academics and physicians, including:
Dr. Fatima Alnaimat, University of Jordan.
Prof. Dr. Nadera Swaiss, University of Illinois, USA.
Prof. Dr. Mousa Al-Abbadi. University of Jordan.
Prof. Dr. Nizar Abdulateef Jassim, College of Medicine – University of Baghdad.
Dr. Marwan Adwan, University of Jordan.
Dr. Hamza Alduraidi, University of Jordan.
Dr. Munir Abu Helalah, University of Jordan.
Dr. Nelly Ziade, Saint Joseph University and Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, Lebanon.
Dr. Wafa Madanat, President of the Jordanian Society for Rheumatic Diseases.
Dr. Dua'a Kutkut, Master’s student, University of Jordan.
Through its interdisciplinary research and broad cooperation, the Rheumatic Diseases Group aims to bridge the gap between science and clinical practice, advance research in the field of rheumatology, and improve patients' quality of life.
