The University of Jordan (UJ) commemorated the 57th anniversary of the Battle of Al-Karamah, a defining moment in history where the Jordanian Armed Forces displayed exceptional bravery, defending the nation’s land and turning the battle into a lasting symbol of dignity, honor, and patriotism.
The celebration featured a grand Ramadan Iftar at the university stadium, attended by nearly 5,000 faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
As part of the event, the university honored the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Jordan, leaving behind a legacy of heroism.
The commemoration began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Al-Karamah Martyrs’ Square on campus, led by the Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Munim Oudat, alongside University President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, Grand Mufti Dr. Ahmed Al-Hasanat.
In his speech, Oudat highlighted that the spirit of Al-Karamah remains deeply rooted in the hearts of Jordanians, emphasizing the need to uphold its legacy.
Obeidat reaffirmed that on this day, Jordanians stood firm against aggression, defending their autonomy and honor in a battle that became a historic milestone for generations to remember.
Al-Hasanat noted that this year, Muslims celebrate two great victories—the conquest of Mecca, which shaped Islamic history, and the anniversary of Al-Karamah Battle, where "Karamah" became the name of both the place and the event.
Dean of the School of Sharia, Prof. Abdul Rahman Al-Kilani, underscored the importance of reviving the spirit of Al-Karamah, particularly as Palestinians endure ongoing sufferings.
While Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Safwan Al-Shayyab, emphasized that the battle proved Jordan's resilience under Hashemite leadership.
Student Union President Nour Al-Din Al-Khattab highlighted that youth development remains a strategic priority for His Majesty the King, with initiatives aimed at enhancing their skills across various fields.
Also during the event, a helicopter flew over the university, dropping papers adorned with quotes from His Majesty King Abdullah the second.
The celebration closed with a performance by the Public Security Directorate band, Islamic chants by the university choir, and an award ceremony honoring winners of Ramadan competitions organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs.
